Assessment and Reporting
A Clear Picture of Progress
At Haydon Bridge High School we run our assessment framework across the whole academic year, split into six half terms. Each half term includes a STEP assessment period (usually lasting one week):
STEP 1 in September–October,
STEP 2 in November–December, and so on through the year.
Year 11 sit assessments in STEPs 1, 2 and 3. All other year groups have STEP assessments in two of the six STEP periods across the year.
Years 7 to 9
During a STEP assessment period there is in-class assessment testing across all subjects. Each assessment is marked and a percentage score given.
Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 receive two reports a year following their STEP assessments, and attend one Parents’ / Carer’s Evening each year. Reports are emailed to parents and carers.
Years 10 and 11
During a STEP assessment period, Year 11 students sit assessments across all subjects, and Year 10 students sit assessments across all of their option subjects (with English, Maths and Science assessed twice a year).
Each assessment is marked and given a GCSE or equivalent grade. Students receive a report following each STEP assessment and attend one Parents’ / Carer’s Evening each year. Reports are emailed to parents and carers.
Years 12 and 13
During a STEP assessment period, Year 12 students sit assessments across all subjects twice a year, and Year 13 students once a year.
Each assessment is marked and given an A Level or equivalent grade. Students receive a report following each STEP assessment and attend one Parents’ / Carer’s Evening each year.
