School Uniform
What students need to wear and bring
At Haydon Bridge High School we want our students to have pride in the school uniform as a valued member of our school community. We expect all students to arrive at school in the correct uniform, with the correct PE kit when required, to help foster that sense of identity and pride in the school.
Uniform Requirements
The school expects high standards of personal appearance and that all students should wear school uniform to and from school, during the school day and when participating in school-organised events.
We appreciate that young people may want to express themselves as they begin to develop their sense of identity, but in all cases, we expect unequivocal parental support in implementing this policy. When accepting a place for your child at Haydon Bridge High School you are agreeing to support the school with this policy and that your child will wear the school uniform as required at all times.
The elements of the Uniform Policy are not negotiable and the judgement of the school retains the right of final decision on the interpretation on any issue regarding this policy.
Deviation from any part of these rules (e.g. on medical grounds) is only permissible with the written consent of the Head of School.
In cases where students do not follow comply with the uniform policy they will receive sanctions while being supported to ensure that they are quickly able to meet the uniform requirements of the school. In extreme cases, in line with the DfE guidance, students may be sent home for not complying with the uniform policy.

Expectations of the PE Department
- Students must always bring their PE kit. Those excused from taking part will still get changed and engage in the learning of the lesson
- Sanctions are in place for forgotten items of kit
- If a student forgets their PE kit, they are expected to wear a spare kit provided by the school
- The correct PE kit must always be brought to every lesson
- Any students with long hair must bring a hair bobble to every lesson to tie their hair back
If There's a Uniform Issue
We know things happen.
- If a student arrives without the correct uniform we’ll offer clean items from our spare uniform supply so they get through the day
- If it becomes a regular issue, students may be asked to spend time in our Restart room until it’s sorted
- With your permission, students may also be sent home briefly to collect the correct items and return to school
Lost jumper? Damaged shoes? Just let us know — we offer a one-day uniform pass to give you time to sort things out. If the issue continues, we’ll get in touch to talk through next steps together.
Before You Buy
Some retailers advertise items as “school uniform” even when they don’t match our expectations. If you’re ever unsure, please check our uniform guide or give us a call — we’re happy to help.
Looking After Belongings
- Please make sure students don’t bring expensive clothing, valuables, large amounts of money, or bank cards to school
- Label everything clearly with your child’s name so lost items can be returned easily
