At Haydon Bridge High School we are committed to providing a high-quality careers programme that helps every student develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to make informed decisions about their future.

Our programme is designed to meet the expectations of the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance and statutory guidance from the Department for Education.

Mr Hill leads the strategic development and implementation of the school’s careers programme.

Our Careers Programme

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) is delivered through our Personal Development (PD) curriculum across all year groups and enhanced through a wide range of enrichment activities.

Our programme includes:

  • Careers education lessons in the PD curriculum (Years 7–13)
  • Careers assemblies and themed events
  • Access to impartial careers advice and guidance
  • Work experience opportunities
  • Employer encounters and workplace visits
  • Encounters with further and higher education providers
  • Support with options, post-16 and post-18 pathways
  • Application and interview preparation
  • Labour market information and skills development


The programme is inclusive and designed to meet the needs of all students, including those with SEND and those at risk of becoming NEET.

Measuring the Impact of Our Careers Programme

We evaluate and continuously improve our careers provision through:

  • Monitoring student destinations (post-16 and post-18)
  • Student, parent and employer feedback
  • Compass+ self-evaluation against the Gatsby Benchmarks
  • Review of participation in careers activities
  • Quality assurance of careers guidance
  • Reporting to senior leadership and governors

Provider Access Policy Statement (Baker Clause)

This policy statement sets out the school’s arrangements for managing requests from providers of technical education and apprenticeships to access students for the purpose of giving them information about their education or training offer.

Student entitlement

All students in Years 8–13 are entitled to:

  • Find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeship opportunities
  • Hear from a range of local providers about opportunities available
  • Understand how to apply for technical courses and apprenticeships

Management of provider access requests

Providers should contact Mr Hill, Careers Leader, on enquiries@haydonbridgehs.co.uk or 01434 684422.

We welcome requests from further education colleges, sixth form colleges, training providers, apprenticeship providers and employers. Opportunities for access include careers fairs and events, assemblies and workshops, curriculum enrichment sessions, and mock interviews and mentoring.

The school will work with providers to ensure access is meaningful and supports student outcomes.
