Welcome to our Year 6 Transition area. At Haydon Bridge School we aim to make the transition to Year 7 as smooth as possible.

We are delighted that you will be joining us in September as part of our new Year 7 cohort. Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, and we are proud to be part of this next step in your educational journey.

One of the things that makes our school so special is the strong sense of belonging we share. We want you to feel part of our team from the very start, supported, valued, and inspired every day.

We are really looking forward to meeting you during your transition day, as well as welcoming your families to our parents’ information evening. These events are a fantastic opportunity for you to get to know the school, meet staff and classmates, and begin to feel at home.

In preparation for your start with us, please take some time to carefully read the information in our transition booklet and ensure that all forms are completed and returned as soon as possible.

Transition Team Communication with Primary Schools

The Transition Team, including members of staff from the Pastoral and Learning Support Departments, visit every Primary School to discuss each student and how best we can support them with the transition to Haydon Bridge High School and to talk to teachers about the progress that each student has been making.

We work hard to ensure that all parents are kept fully informed with the transition opportunities and will share key information in a timely manner.

Year 6 Nurture Transition Day

Our nurture transition sessions are designed to provide additional support for Year 6 pupils as they prepare to move into Year 7, helping to reduce anxiety and build confidence about the change.

During this additional transition morning, students are given the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the school environment through guided tours, enabling them to locate key areas such as classrooms, the dining hall, and pastoral spaces. They also meet important staff members, including form tutors, year leaders, and support staff, which helps them begin to form positive relationships before starting in September.

The additional nurture support offered during this session ensures that pupils who may feel particularly anxious or need extra reassurance are given the time, guidance, and encouragement they need to feel safe, welcomed, and ready to begin their secondary school journey.

Year 6 Transition Day 2026

Tuesday 30th June

On our transition day students are invited to spend the day with us in their new Form Group. The aim of the day is to ensure students are clear about what to expect when they join the school and feel fully supported as they embark on the next stage of their educational journey.

They will be fully immersed in school life, finding their way around, meeting other Year 7 students and enjoying the high-level learning experiences we have on offer in the Year 7 curriculum. We do our best to make this a very enjoyable experience whilst also ensuring students are aware of the high expectations we have of them as they join us. Please note that it is the responsibility of parents to transport their child to and from this day and provide a packed lunch.

Year 6 Transition Parent Information Evening 2026

Thursday 2^nd July

Transitioning from primary to secondary school introduces both parents and students to many new faces and key contacts. To help make this change as smooth as possible, we invite parents to attend a dedicated Parents’ Welcome Evening.

The evening will begin with a welcome talk in the hall, followed by an opportunity to meet members of the Senior Leadership Team and key pastoral staff. These staff members will be your main points of contact and support for both you and your child throughout their time at school.

This event is designed to focus on your role as a parent in supporting your child’s education and their transition to Haydon Bridge High School.

Admissions Forms

All our admissions information will be gathered online.

There are two important forms to complete, you will find these in your welcome letter. Please make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to read through everything and double check your entry before submitting the forms, as online changes cannot be made following submission.

First are the Data Collection, Consents and Agreements to be filled in by you. Then there is the Student Profile, and this is to be completed by your child.
