At Haydon Bridge High School we want our students to have pride in the school uniform as a valued member of our school community. We expect all students to arrive at school in the correct uniform, with the correct PE kit when required, to help foster that sense of identity and pride in the school.

Our uniform is designed to:

• Foster a sense of belonging.

• Foster a sense of pride in being part of the school.

• Promote equality – uniform brings everyone onto the same platform.

• Reflect standards in the workplace.

• Be cost-effective and practical.

• Enhance the positive image of the school.

The school expects high standards of personal appearance and that all students should wear school uniform to and from school, during the school day, and when participating in school-organised events. We appreciate that young people may want to express themselves as they begin to develop their sense of identity, but in all cases, we expect unequivocal parental support in implementing this policy. When accepting a place for your child at Haydon Bridge High School, you are agreeing to support the school with this policy and that your child will wear the school uniform as required at all times.

The elements of the Uniform Policy are not negotiable, and the judgement of the school retains the right of final decision on the interpretation of any issue regarding this policy. Deviation from any part of these rules (e.g., on medical grounds) is only permissible with the written consent of the Head of School.

In cases where students do not comply with the uniform policy, they will receive sanctions while being supported to ensure that they are quickly able to meet the uniform requirements of the school. In extreme cases, in line with DfE guidance, students may be sent home for not complying with the uniform policy.

School Uniform Requirements

• Haydon Bridge Jumper: Navy blue school jumper with embroidered logo.

• Black School Trousers: Plain, straight-leg, black school trousers. No black jeans, no black canvas trousers of any style, and no leggings.

• White Shirt: Plain white formal collared shirt with a top button (not a polo shirt). Shirts should be long enough to be tucked in. Fitted shirts for girls which will not tuck in are unacceptable. Short-sleeved shirts are permitted.

• Plain Black Polishable Footwear: Plain black shoes or plain full leather polishable trainers (no coloured logos or coloured stitching). Girls’ shoes must be black, flat or with broad heels – not sandals or backless. Boys’ shoes must be plain black and polishable, with no coloured logos, air bubbles, coloured eyelets, or stitching.

• Coats: Outdoor coats must be removed when inside the school building.

• Hats / Caps: Hats and caps must not be worn at any time.
